2 standouts at the Salon del Mobile

jenpen.studio - April 17, 2019 - 0 comments

I’ve been planning this trip in my head for about three years and in January of this year, I booked my ticket to Milan, Italy. I wasn’t about to miss my first experience of Salon del Mobile (which means Furniture expo in Italian). Last week finally arrived and I was on my way to Milan. I had the pleasure to follow others on their journey through vlogs, blogs or now on instastories.

But to be totally honest, I had no idea what to expect. I was hoping for better weather, but unfortunately, we had some rainy days. But that didn’t stop me to walk around and be inspired.

And to totally honest again, it was so overwhelming. I had no idea where to begin. In 2016 I went to Expo Milano at Rho Fierra and I first thought it was only there. But no, heck no. It’s all over the city of Milan and oh man, there were so many things to see. From super exclusive design furniture to amazing installations.

I’m going to share my experience with you in two parts. Today I’ll give you a look of what stood out for me at the Salon de Mobile fair at Rho Fierra and next week I’ll share with you a vlog where you’ll see the other parts of Milan I visited.

YELLOW / GOLD IS HERE TO STAY

Yes, my favorite color is very much still a statement in the interior design world. In all different shades and forms. From cutlery to sofas to chairs to wallpaper to another furniture element. It’s a color that can be beautiful in all sort of materials, like velvet fabric or recycled plastic.

GREENERY / BOTANICAL TREND

Another aspect I really enjoyed of this fair was the amount of plants there were used for all kind of different installations. From some potted plants to a whole tree hanging from the ceiling. Also boticanical wallpaper was there in many forms and colors. Making it a clear statement that with plants you can always decorate a room without doing a lot of change. I would had love to see it bit more in upholstery of chairs, but it was still a statement. So, one advice, never leave out the love of greenery out of your space. From faux to real, it doesn’t matter, as long you know how to incopoarate it with style in your space. Here are some examples:

I told you there was a lot to see. I can imagine each year how many work there’s into this fair to make it stand out. And stand out it does surely. Next week I’ll share a video with you so you can indulge even more the beauty of interior design in the design city of Milan.
