Last year I did a course where I learned a bit about trendwatching. A trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. And many trends keep repeating themselves. In the interior design field, a trend will stay a bit longer than in the fashion industry.
Visiting several tradeshows will also help you see what is going on and to come in the future. Last year I got to visited some European tradeshows, where some great elements where showcased to be here for a while.
YELLOW, BLACK & GOLD
What was very notable was the return of more color. Beside pink being a color that made its statement, yellow is still one color to blend in. It’s a beautiful color that comes in different shades. And a close family of the yellow is the color gold. Gold is making its return also in the interior design. A great way to add a high-end touch to your interior. Black (or anthracite grey) was also one to see in different set ups. The use of black will keep a space very modern & sleek. Matching it with the right materials, it will have a cold or warm look.
WOOD, BRASS & STEEL
Wood will always be a material that can be used in so many ways. Adding wood elements to an interior will bring more warmth to the space. It’s also goes great with the other materials like brass and steel. The metals, brass & steel, made a statement in several designs. Going with a high-end look, these materials are a great way to design and style with.
Following trends on the dot will be expensive, but it’s good to know what’s going out there right now. And adding some new trendy pieces or color to your existing interior is always a great way to be on trend. Blend your taste with something that might be on trend right now, but that can go with you for several more years.
I had the pleasure to style a part of the showroom at Techniek & Design Plaza to show you how to combine these colors and materials in a lovely home setting.
