Two weeks ago I visited the VT Wonen Design Fair, which was held in RAI Amsterdam. A few days of the latest trends all in one space. Three years ago I also visited the fair (and the next year I did a throwback to the fair) I can honestly say I did liked the decor then more than now. I felt lots of the trends are things that haven’t really changed over the passed years. But it was great to see the overload of colors. So, here is a few trends that were spotted at the fair.
1. SHADES OF PINK
It been a while that the softer side and darker shade of pink has been in trend. But now it’s a bit more brighter but with the same look of softness. So don’t be afraid to add this color in your space because you can go many ways with it.
2. GOLD TOUCHES
A few years back, brass was all over the place. Now we can add the gold touches back in our spaces. Tables, mirrors, candle holders are just a few of gold items that can make your space all shiney.
3. GOING TERRAZZO
Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass or other suitable material, poured with a cementitious binder, polymeric or a combination of both. It does remind me of some floor that are laid in our monumental buildings on the island.
4. BLACK IN THE BATHROOM
I really loved to see these items, as I, before I went to the fair I already proposed matte black sink tap in the bathroom of a office project. I saw several sinks in black and it looked very modern and minimalistic.
5. ABUNDANCEOF COLOR
Lots and lots of color in combination with the botanical trend of lots of plants, was just the greatest to see. Don’t be afraid to mix and match with color. Bringing the balance with warm and natural materials.
6. TILED FLOORING
You might think because of the cold weather in Europe, you see more carpet flooring than tiles. But there were lots of choices for tiles. I’ve seen the hardwood look at so many stands (to bad, but I haven’t taken a picture of any).
So, this was my recap of my spotted trends at the VT Wonen design Fair of 2018. I hope you’ll get inspired by them and try to apply them in your own space in your own way. For more inspiration about this fair, check out my highlight on my Instagram.
