People sometimes think that when you’re a creative person, that you’re like that always. But seriously, the creative people among us also have their moments that they don’t feel creative at all. Me included. But how can we as creative people keep our creative juice flowing?
1. WRITE STUFF / IDEAS DOWN
I always have a pen with me, so when something comes to my mind I’ll write it down on whatever paper in my surrounding. For that reason it’s an good idea to have a notebook with you. Most of the time I forget it at home and make use of the notes in my iPhone. Always a great way to keep your ideas stored.
2. READ A BOOK
Books are still being made nowadays with all this technology and free internet at every corner you look. But sometimes it’s great to have a bundle of piece of paper in your hands. I, for example, love to buy interior design books. I’ll read them over and over again and the main thing is that I love the beautiful images placed in the book. Reading let’s your mind work and will let you come up with other creative ideas of your own.
3. TRAVEL
Traveling is a must for me, even is it just traveling in your own country. As my island is a small island, I still haven’t been to everything creative and exciting. Traveling to other cities or countries is a way to juice up your creativity. You’ll experience another culture, art, people, food and that will let your creativity come to live again.
4. BRAINSTORM WITH OTHERS
When you’re a freelancer or work at home, it’s a good thing to set up meetings with other creative people. When interacting with others you can bounce ideas from each other and even collaborate with each others on projects. So go get your creative lads together and get a heatwave with ideas together.
5. TRY TO CREATE SOMETHING NEW
Try to make that one recipe that you saw on pinterest or that one styling of one picture. Try something you haven’t done. Last year I went to a crochet workshop and it was something really new for me, but it gave me new ideas.
6. VISIT MUSEUMS / ART GALLERIES / FESTIVALS
I love to admire work of others. It’s a great way to create something new in your ideas. If you love history on whatever subject, go look for a museums or art galleries that have it and you’ll see new ideas floating in your head.
7. DON’T COMARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Even though it’s a great thing to see work of others, it’s a greater thing to not compare your work with their work. Everyone is unique in their own way, so don’t be afraid of your creativity.
8. DON’T GIVE UP
It can be challenging when you’re working on your own and maybe even when others don’t really believe in you. That is a very good reason not to give up and keep your eyes on the prize.
9. HAVE FUN
Creativity is something we sometimes have to go look at places or others to get it flowing for us. But remember always have fun while doing it.
